Quarry Side Walkers and Cyclists Only is one of those old-school camping sites that is wonderfully basic, incredibly scenic, and extremely pocket-friendly. The camping field rests 200-yards off the road leading to the village of Banks and is only accessible on foot. Cyclists can enter the site by pushing bikes up a peaceful grass track. Facilities include a single cold water sink for washing pots and pans, a smaller outdoor sink near the loo, and a unique composting toilet that is a sight to behold. Read the instructions before using the loo, and ensure you don’t have your phone in the back pocket when you go. There are no lights, so bring a torch for getting about at night. The friendly owners, a couple, often pop around in the evening selling refreshing beers from a quad bike - handy if you’re keen to gaze out at the stars. Pets are welcome.
