Side Farm Campsite is arguably one of the most scenically placed campsites in England, near an unbeatable collection of walks. The small yet simple site boasts spectacular lakeside views and enjoys a central position, sandwiched between the shimmering beauty of Lake Ullswater and Place Fell. Feel the stress of everyday life melt into the distance as you sit back and soak in the tranquillity and scenery at this no-frills camping space. Side Farm is the perfect place for active types and not so active guests to don walking shoes and explore various open-air activities. Walkers can amble along both challenging and gentle footpaths, soaking in the scenery, with stops for quiet picnics in shaded and viewsome corners. The lakeside path winding from Howtown Patterdale is one of the best in the Lakeland area, earning high praise from legendary fell walker and guidebook writer Wainwright. Other campers are welcome to arrive with canoes, spending their days paddling the entire Ullswater, with a strict and rigidly enforced 10-mph speed limit. Guests are adviced to take care when enjoying the lake and keep an eye on the kids at all times. Wander up the slopes of Helvellyn on several excellent routes up the fell kicking off directly from the campsite. Side Farm Campsite has non-electric grass pitches for tents and small campervans with no onboard showers or loos. Amenities include hot showers, toilets, a washing up area, and a communal washing machine with a drier. Dogs are welcome.
