Wild Woodland Retreat

Wild Woodland Retreat is a peaceful, spacious site offering green pitches on a friendly, family-run farm just a half an hour drive from the pristine Kent beaches and the lively town of Canterbury. The site offers direct access to footpaths that meander along for a full half-hour before reaching the village pubs. This wild, wooded site is perfect for those who want to get away from it all, so come on over and enjoy the sights and sounds of camping out in an unspoiled meadow, enclosed by a scenic valley filled with the soothing sounds of birdsong, as butterflies flitter between vividly coloured wildflowers.

We offer 6 camping pitches for families or couples with a max of 2 adults per pitch. Our site is suitable for tents, campervan, motorhome or caravan (valley only for large vehicles). We offer a different experience to the usual campsite. A vast area with only a few pitches. This gives you the feel of wild camping but with standpipes, composting loos, and high-quality showers.

The glamping abodes are tucked away in secluded corners around the family-friendly farm, giving each unit heaps of space for guests to run about, stretch out, take in the views of the sparkling night sky. There are lovely, peaceful footpaths leading down to the nearest village Elham through serene fields, making it perfect for those who want to stretch their legs on relaxing walk. Enjoy refreshments at the pub, stop in at tearooms and restaurants or stock up on supplies at the village store. Canine companions are more than welcome to join well-behaved owners for their stay.

This off-grid site is located away from roads and buildings, so there are no electric hook-ups or chemical waste disposal available. However, guests can walk about 10 minutes to the nearby farm to recharge ice packs in a freezer. Device charging is also possible at the farm—just ask.

There are four compost toilets and two gas-powered hot showers housed in a converted horse trailer. Additional campers are welcome in the woodland area if booking together, but this requires hiring the Woodland Hut as well.

For campervans, there are two pitches in the woodland and two in the valley. Motorhomes are also allowed—smaller ones (up to four berths) are suitable for the woodland, while larger vehicles are better suited to the valley. Each pitch includes space for two adults, so solo travellers in campervans only need to book one pitch.

Groups are welcome, but should get in touch by email to arrange. Group bookings are accepted if reserving all pitches in either the woodland or valley areas.

Each pitch is set in a private spot—two in a 10-acre woodland and four in a 23-acre wild valley. Campfires are allowed, but during very dry periods, fires may be limited to designated zones due to the risk of fire in the valley.

Dogs are welcome and can be off-lead as long as they stay nearby. A £2 dog fee per stay goes to a local charity. As livestock roam freely on the farm, dogs must be on a lead when walking up from the valley to the farm. Also, please be aware of goat walks that pass through the valley around 10:30–12:00 and 13:30–15:00.
