Knepp Wildland Safaris
Bed down on the sprawling Knepp Estate, one of the largest rewilding projects in Europe, centred on a lovely castle designed by celebrated British architect John Nash. The lands, which were once intensively farmed for over 50-years, were recently incompatible with modern farming methods, and the Knepp family struggled to come up with a solution. Owner Charlie Burrell came up with a new approach that involved working with the land rather than against it and now uses grazing animals to help renew the estate. As a result, campers can now observe free-roaming Exmoor ponies, Longhorn cattle, Tamworth pigs, plus red and fallow deer that spend happy days roaming across a whopping 3,500 acres. The unique, viewsome, and entirely peaceful environment draws in birdlife like nightingales, turtle doves, cuckoos, making it an excellent spot for nature lovers and birdwatchers to kick back in style and make the most of this pristine corner of England. Sit back on your pitch in the exclusive Wildland campsite, or appreciate the comforts of a luxurious shepherd’s hut or bell tent as you soak in panoramic views of the countryside and encounter some of the rarest wildlife in the UK. What better way to end the day than with alfresco nibbles or a campfire, preferably with your canine companion snuggled nearby, creating a cosy and relaxing atmosphere.
