Plenty of beer this hol, you say? We got you, says we, or rather the friendly folk down at Beer Youth Hostel. If the rather telling name hasn’t given it away, this cracking spot overflows with oodles of, well, beer and provides adventuring sorts with a splendid location to get their holiday on without breaking the bank. Sounds too good to be true. Come by and get a first-hand taste of the serenity and local ales on offer. The hostel itself is a lovely Victorian building, snuggled amid a quiet wooded valley, with pitches set out on the former croquet lawn of the old lord. Bring your bikes along for some thrilling two-wheeled adventures, kicking off with the National Cycle Network Route 2, winding its way right past the hostel. The owners have installed a bike shed on the premises with essential tools and bits to keep you rolling merrily through the landscape. Hardy bikers can tackle mountain biking nearby, while the active non-cycling types partake in exciting open-air pursuits, including canoeing, kayaking, horse riding, sailing, fishing, ambling, and cycling. If rest and little to no strenuous movement are the orders of the day, just sit back and unwind. Sorry, the site does not accept pets.
